The New NHS ‘Pharmacy First’ Scheme

From the 31st January 2024, the NHS will be launching its new Pharmacy First Scheme. As part of the service, patients suffering with any of seven common conditions, including Shingles, ear infections, sore throats and sinusitis, among others, may be referred to their local pharmacy for treatment.

Over the next few months patients submitting online consultations with suitable conditions may be signposted to their local pharmacy for further assessment and management. This will allow the surgery to prioritise GP appointments for more unwell patients or complicated cases.
